At first none of us thought we would make it. We had regular stops and by 11:30 my legs were becoming less painful. 4km through our 14km journey we reached an ice-cream shop. At this poing in our trip it was heaven.
The sun was beating down on us but we could sit in the shade free of our bags eating an ice cream. We kept walking and I was now enjoying the trek! Getting up the steep bits were hard but we were surrounded by beautiful mountains and luckily at regular intervals shade.
We could often re-fill our water bottles and I drank a lot of water. By lunchtime we were all very hungry and we kept asking Krsto 'how much longer?'. He would reply 'a few more minutes'. After 20 minutes we gave up on him. Finally we had a very long lunch.
As we carried on up the mountain it got steeper and steeper. Then we rounded a bend and our mountain hut was there. We had managed to arrive at 5:15.
We then went swimming in the freezing cold mountain river. We found a small waterfall and forced our heads under it, screaming with cold and delight.
For dinner we made soup rice/rissoto and had the priviledge of using a real kitchen! After dinner we had loads of fun playing group games. Guy introduced us to his favourite style of game where the whole point is that you don't get it. After a stick game we played THE MOON GAME something I will never forget!!! The frustration involved was unbearable. Even remembering now makes me uber-frustrated. However, in the end I found the secret and it felt so good to know!
The toilets in the mountain huts were just holes in the floor. We also had to all share a very dark room meaning it got terribly messy. I took over the role of 'lighthouse' where I would sit in the corner with my bright headtorch and light up the room.
